Self-Portrait (repost)
I've posted this photo before , but it seemed a nice one to end with. I've come to the end of the material that I want to share he...
In memory of Dick Hibbert (1933-2010), I am posting selections from his art. He painted in oil, was an avid photographer, did watercolors, and sketched in pencil, ink, and charcoal. You can send me email by addressing it to my first name at mydruthers.com. --Chris

Ships on the Horizion
An oil painting. This one reminds me of navy ships on the horizon, but you might see something very different. MSH has this one. This one is fairly large; I remember it as about 3' x 4'.

Kokeshi Doll Trio (Sketch)
Three Kokeshi dolls. They're a Japanese style of carved wooden dolls. I suspect this was drawn from some of the dolls in KSR's collection. Sketch in colored pencil. The original is hanging in JLS' apartment.

Tule Field
Oil painting called "Tule Fields" in my notes, though I don't know where I found the name. JLHS says RTH had been taking a class in Geology before he painted this. He was very interested in the land layers and had been on several field trips out in the country. I have this painting. It's 48" x 58".

Flowers in a Vase (Painting)

Barn and Wagon (watercolor)
A simple watercolor of a barn and wagon. The lines have bled a little, but it's still nice. Undated.

Italian Square (sketch)
This is a photo of a (signed) sketch. It looks like an Italian square to me. I don't have a copy of the sketch, but the photo seems like it was taken around 1960. I'm not sure where RTH would have been traveling at that time. It's possible that it was drawn from a photo.

Mt Fuji from Hayama
A view of Mount Fuji as seen from the house where we lived in Hayama. I recognize the spire at the bottom as part of the Hayama Marina (where we lived for a few months when we first arrived in Japan.) I think we lived in Hayama in 1968.

Hasselblad (sketch)
Sketch of a Hasselblad camera. Undated, but it's definitely one of his earlier works from college or around that time.

Ships at Sea
Abstract of ships at sea. This was RTH's first oil painting done with a palette knife. It represents "a feeling he had while on watch on the ship at sea in early morning." The original is 3' x 4'. I have it hanging in my living room. This one is pretty popular: RWH has an almost-full-size copy on display, and KSR has a smaller copy up as well.

Reflections
Reflections on the side of a glass building. I always thought this photo had been taking in New York City on a trip to visit the UN, but it's collected with a group of photos from Japan's Expo 70, so that's where I now think it was taken.

Ivy at Table Edge
Drawing in ink of an ivy plant. One of the works RTH did in college. The paper is crinkled, so it was hard to get a clean scan.

Ocean Waves (painting)
Oil Painting of ocean waves. Thanks to EWR for the improved image. As I recall, this was over RTH's main work desk at Terra Uchi. KSR has it at present.

Zushi House 1966-1968
This is the house we lived in the first time we lived in Zushi, from 1966 to 1968. This view shows the wisteria vine that showed up in an earlier photo.

Exposed Tenement Building Face
I think this was taken in 1978 or so. We're looking a the remaining building after the building that used to occupy the lot RTH shot from was demolished. There were apparently some openings in the firewall between the buildings, and they've been covered up with plywood.
