Self-Portrait (repost)

I've posted this photo before , but it seemed a nice one to end with. I've come to the end of the material that I want to share he...

In memory of Dick Hibbert (1933-2010), I am posting selections from his art. He painted in oil, was an avid photographer, did watercolors, and sketched in pencil, ink, and charcoal.   You can send me email by addressing it to my first name at mydruthers.com. --Chris

Self Portrait

This was taken in the house where we lived in Hayama from 1970 to 1972.  The hangings beside the painting were made from fishing net weights we kids would collect off the nearby beach.    I have the painting in the background here, and will post a photo on its own eventually.  This photo is part of a series of portraits RTH did of the whole family, which is why I'm sure it's a self-portrait.

Bamboo fence

I think this is a close-up of a temple fence made of sturdy bamboo posts.  I don't understand the interspersed bundles of sticks.  They look like inverted Japanese-style brooms, but that doesn't explain anything.

Hilltop Castle

Japan has plenty of interesting castles.  I haven't done the research to figure out which one this is.  From RTH's slide collection.

Trimming an Arbor

I don't know what is being tended here.  From a collection of slides taken in Japan in the late 1960s.

Added: JLH says this was taken outside the house we lived in in Zushi from 1966 to 1968, and the trellis holds a wisteria vine.

Zushi Interior, stone table, pachinko machine

When I was looking at the scanned negatives, this one was very dark.  I could tell that the stone coffee table was there, but the rest of the picture was obscure.  When I brightened it up, I was astonished to see so many familiar elements in the picture.  This is probably the first house we lived in, in Zushi, in 1966 or 1967.  RTH built the stone coffee table and the chair on the right before we moved to Japan.  We still had them until moving out of Terra Uchi last year.  I remember the pachinko machine, and even the candle on the table.
